How to choose

Quick Answer

If a site serves visitors in the EU or UK and sets non-essential cookies such as analytics or advertising tags, it needs prior consent — not just a notice. A consent management platform (CMP) automates that: it scans the site for cookies and scripts, blocks non-essential ones until the visitor agrees, stores a consent log and passes consent signals to tools such as Google tags.

What to Compare

  • Certifications. Google-certified CMP status and IAB TCF support matter if the site runs Google advertising products or programmatic ads.
  • Scanning and blocking. How often the site is rescanned, and whether scripts are actually blocked before consent.
  • Geo-targeting. Serving opt-in banners to EU visitors and opt-out flows to US visitors from one setup.
  • Pricing limits. Most CMPs price by domain and pageviews; check the cap before choosing a plan.
